Children’s Night Time Adventures

There are so many exciting things to do in the dark, and there’s no better time to get your family out in nature than after dark. Nighttime adventures are an essential part of kids’ growing up, and they provide a unique opportunity for parents to help their children discover their inner wild child.

Having kids learn to love the dark is not only a great way for them to develop their natural curiosity and self-confidence, but it also helps them become more resilient as they navigate their own fears. Here are some ideas for nighttime adventures that will be sure to put a smile on their faces, and a glow in their hearts!

Take a Family Walk in the Woods at Night

It can be intimidating for kids to venture outside at night, but it’s a fantastic activity that everyone will enjoy. Whether you’re taking a walk through the neighborhood or heading out for a longer hike in a nearby state park, it’s an opportunity to let the kids explore their senses and see the wonder of nature at its most beautiful.

Have a Night Time Craft Party

Kids love crafting and playing with their imaginations. Whether you make something that’s out of paper, clay or playdough, they’ll be able to share their creations with the rest of the family and show off how creative they are!

Set up a mini-art studio where each member of the family can create their own art project to share with the rest of the family. This can include drawing pictures, making necklaces, or even creating a giant sculpture out of scraps of paper and other materials.

Sing A Long / Dance Together

This activity is great for families that have different ages because it can be a fun way to bring the entire family together. It can be a great way to build trust and friendships and help everyone feel comfortable in their own abilities.

Pick a Country as a Theme for the Night

One of our favorite activities to do on an evening is to pick a country and have a “country night.” We started this tradition when we were living in Italy, and made lasagna and cannoli. We listened to music from that country, and the kids learned some facts about it.

Have a Sing-A-Long and Dance Together

This is an especially fun activity for families with multiple children because it’s a chance for them to get together to sing and dance to their favorite songs. It’s also a great way for them to work on their singing and dancing skills and practice their new moves!

Go to the Library for a Storytime and Flannel Boards

It’s always fun to head to the library for an evening storytime with the kids. It’s a way for them to wind down for the day and have a special experience in a safe environment.

If your library doesn’t offer a nighttime storytime, consider asking to schedule one for the next time your kids visit. It’s a great way to let them bond with the library staff and other kids in your area, while getting some one-on-one time with a librarian. childrens night night
