Click and Trip Becomes a Key European Hub for TravelPerk

In an era when people are shopping online more than ever before, Click and Trip is helping them take a step closer to their purchases. The service, also known as Buy Online Pick Up in Store (BOPIS) and Curbside Pick Up, allows consumers to order products from a retailer’s website or mobile app and then pick up the items at a designated location within or outside the store. Shoppers receive a notification when the order is ready for pickup. In many cases, this method cuts errands and shopping times in half while also eliminating shipping costs for the consumer.

Often, the advantage to using Click and Trip is that it allows customers to see their products in person before they purchase them. Many shoppers prefer to choose items they know will fit or look good before they purchase them, which is a challenge with purely online purchases. In addition, Click and Collect gives shoppers the ability to avoid issues that can occur during shipping, such as inclement weather or lost packages.

For retailers, offering Click and Collect can help them reach new customer groups that would not be comfortable purchasing from them online, as well as reduce the risk of losing revenue to competitors who offer this service. The service can also help retailers increase brand loyalty and customer retention.

TravelPerk has been on something of a shopping spree since the COVID-19 pandemic, having already picked up travel booking startup Albatross and risk management software provider NexTravel in recent months. The acquisition of Click Travel will see the Birmingham-based company become a key European hub for TravelPerk, which is already working out of London and Barcelona.

Unlike many of the other travel startups that have been growing rapidly in recent years, Click Travel was founded back in 1999 and appears to have raised relatively little venture capital (just under $300M, per Crunchbase) over its long run. However, it participated in the government-backed Future Fifty scale up program last year and took in a multimillion pound investment from the UK’s Business Growth Fund this past summer.

Whether it’s for work or play, Click and Trip provides a flexible and cost-effective travel solution for all types of travelers, from solo entrepreneurs needing a train to London to corporate travellers who need flights and hotels around the world. Its Share My Trip feature lets users share their trip status with friends and family, while an in-app map shows where they’re at any time.
